Dorset Police and Age UK partnership prevents nearly 2,000 nuisance calls.
Dorset Police and Age UK North, South and West Dorset have successfully launched a call blocker initiative that is protecting elderly and vulnerable residents from scammers and nuisance callers.
Thanks to funding secured from the Police and Crime Commissioner, 25 free call blocking units have been installed in homes across the region, already preventing 1,962 nuisance calls and an estimated three scams since the project’s launch.
The initiative has delivered savings to vulnerable households, with Age UK-trained staff providing the installations alongside valuable advice and support for isolated and elderly residents.
Long-term Impact
Over their operational lifetime, these 25 units are projected to:
- Block 18,752 nuisance calls, including 5,132 scam attempts
- Prevent 30 scams
- Reduce public service costs across the NHS, social care and police
- Deliver wellbeing benefits and quality of life improvements for scam victims
Fraud Protect Officer at Dorset Police, Damian Cranny, said: “These call blockers are proving to be a vital shield for our most vulnerable residents. If you’re elderly and receiving nuisance calls, I encourage you to contact Age UK NSWD on 01305 269444 to arrange a free installation.”
