Free Training to Combat Fuel Poverty

Empowering Frontline Workers to Support Vulnerable Households
Dorset Community Action and Citizens Advice East Dorset & Purbeck is pleased to announce a free training opportunity for frontline staff and volunteers working with vulnerable households in England and Wales. The training aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and support individuals and families struggling with fuel poverty.
Fuel poverty, defined as the inability to afford adequate warmth in one’s home, can have severe consequences on physical and mental health, particularly for vulnerable populations. This training is designed to address this critical issue by providing practical guidance and resources to those on the front lines of community support.
Training Details:
This comprehensive 60-minute training session will cover the following key areas:
  • Understanding Fuel Poverty: Participants will gain a clear understanding of what fuel poverty is, its root causes, and its impact on individuals and communities.
  • Identifying Clients in Need: The training will provide practical guidance on how to identify clients who are at risk of or currently experiencing fuel poverty.
  • Energy Efficiency Strategies: Participants will learn effective energy efficiency tips and strategies that can help clients reduce their energy consumption and lower their bills.
  • Providing Information and Advice: The session will cover best practices for providing clear, accurate, and helpful information and advice to clients facing fuel poverty.
  • Referral Options: Participants will be informed about available referral pathways for clients who require further assistance and support, including specialized services and financial assistance programs.
Target Audience:
This training is highly recommended for frontline staff and volunteers who regularly interact with vulnerable clients in their homes or communities. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Social Workers
  • Social Prescribers
  • Care Workers
  • Healthcare Workers
  • Befrienders
  • Community Support Workers

  • Online (via Teams): Tuesday, March 24th, 2026, 13:30 – 14:30
  • In-Person: February 25th (Location details available on Eventbrite)
  • Short Refresher Sessions: February 19th and March 10th

This training is offered free of charge as part of the Citizens Advice Energy Outreach Project in England and Wales.
